Organic Pu-erh tea is a kind of high-quality Pu-erh tea that is non-pollution, pesticide-free, and additive-free.
The cost of planting and producing organic Pu-erh tea is much higher than that of ordinary Pu-erh tea. Therefore, the production output of organic Pu-erh tea is low and its price is much more expensive, but it is very healthy and has more and better benefits than ordinary Pu-erh tea.
1. What is organic tea
With the improvement of living standards, people pay more attention to health and food safety, which is the reason for the rise of organic tea.
Organic tea refers to fresh leaves produced in accordance with organic agricultural production systems and methods in the place where there is no source of pollution.
It is not contaminated by any chemicals during processing, packaging, storage, and transportation, and is examined and certified by the organic food certification authority.
The production requirements for organic tea are extremely high. The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements has set strict standards for it. Among them, the soil, water quality, air, tea picking and processing, and the content of trace elements in tea have been proposed.
Firstly, the tea garden must be far away from the city, with high altitude, good surrounding environmental greening conditions, and free from pollution from external pollution sources. The air and water sources must be strictly tested by the certification authority.
Secondly, it is forbidden to use any synthetic chemical compounds such as chemical fertilizers, pesticides, growth regulators, etc. in the tea gardens. In the vicinity of tea gardens, it is forbidden to burn grass, straw, wood, etc. to keep the air fresh.
Thirdly, in the process of picking, producing, packaging, and transportation, organic tea should not contact non-organic food, let alone add other chemical additives.
As you can see above, the production cost of organic tea is very high. In China, organic tea only accounts for 1% of China’s total tea.
2. Characteristics of organic Pu-erh tea
The growth status of Pu-erh tea is mainly divided into two types: one is basically not trimmed and not dwarfed and can grow high and big, which is called arbor tea. The other one is trimmed and can’t grow high, which is called tableland tea.
Arbor tea has a good ecological environment and the tee trees are often associated with forests. Plant diversity is conducive to the mutual growth of plants and avoids the use of pesticides.
In addition, the fallen leaves in the forests can form a humus layer, which provides rich nutrients for the tea trees, and the tea trees can grow well without fertilization. So arbor tea is natural, pollution-free, additive-free, and does not need artificial care, not to mention pesticides.
Tableland tea is planted by modern tea planting technology, such as fertilization, spraying pesticides, trimming and so on. Because of dense planting and too much artificial interventions, tableland tea can be said to be artificially cultivated tea.
So the arbor tea of Pu-erh tea is usually organic Pu-erh tea. But if the arbor tea is artificially intervened, it is not organic Pu-erh tea.
In order to protect the legitimate rights and interests of producers and consumers, the Pu-erh tea will be reviewed, evaluated, and certified by a third-party authority. After successful verification, the authority will issue the certificate, which indicates the Pu-erh tea is real organic Pu-erh tea.
3. Benefits of organic Pu-erh tea
Organic Pu-erh tea is natural, healthy, pollution-free, free of heavy metal content and chemical residues. It contains more tea polyphenols, proteins, amino acids, chlorophyll, aromatic oil, vitamins, trace elements and hundreds of other nutrients, which have many pharmacological effects.
