Yingde Black Tea

Yingde black tea or Yingde Hong Cha is a famous Chinese black tea, produced in Yingde City of Guangdong Province. It is a specialty of YingdeCity and is a national geographic indication product of China.

Yingde black tea started in 1959, a new variety mainly cultivated from Yunnan large-leaf tea tree. Since the advert of Yingde black tea, it has been loved by consumers. Because of its unique quality and characteristics, Yingde black tea is as famous as Dianhong tea and Keemun tea.

1. History of Yingde black tea

Yingde City is an ancient tea area with a long history of tea production. According to historical records, the tea history of Yingde City can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) more than 1,200 years ago.

In the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the tea produced in Yingde City had become a tribute tea of the imperial court. In the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912), the tea production of Yingde tea had been popularized among the people and flourished in the international trade in the first half of the 19th century.

In 1956, under the direction of the central government, Yingde City started to establish a black tea production base and successfully created the Yingde black tea in 1959.

After the appearance of Yingde black tea, it was well-received at home and abroad. And it was once on the tea table of the British royal family and was loved very much. This is why many Yingde black tea related products on the market will be labeled “1959”.

In 2010, Yingde black tea got the “National Geographic Indication Trademark”.

2. Growth environment of Yingde black tea

The tea species of Yingde black tea are new varieties improved and cultivated from other tea trees, such as Yunnan large-leaf tea, Phoenix Shui Xian tea, etc.

Yinhong No.9 is one of the varieties of tea trees cultivated in the 20th. Because it produces the highest quality tea, it is the most famous Yingde black tea or tea tree. The biggest characteristics of Yinhong No.9 are strong and mellow. One gram of Yinhong No.9 can brew 500ml of tea soup.
